Some people pop into your life as a quiet rage. They bring with them a slow burn with a pocketful of matches to light the way to a higher way of thinking. The rage stems from lived experience and the deep desire to teach and learn. Roger contains multitudes worthy of understanding: an ever-evolving being holding the power to meld into different characters at-will. Let’s sit down and learn something new.
1. Tell the people about yourself in 3rd person.
When I look at Roger, I instantly see obedience, poise, a little shyness with a certain fire I would like to discover. It seems like it can often be taken as overconfidence or cockiness to those who do not know him but when approached turns into a conversation that could last a lifetime or educate in a way to inspire you to grow. The shyness can be taken as overprotectiveness due to the fact of him trusting and loving and constant damage. His heart has been shattered but taped and glued and it still works like new. His eyes tell a story I would love to hear but am afraid to ask because it seems so powerful. When he smiles it's contagious and when he speaks it sounds cathartic and soothing. He is something special but he doesn't know it.
2. What have you done that, if you could, you’d erase from history and do another way?
Enjoying the moment. I feel like many times I have been in such a space where I am wanting others to feel great and worrying if things will go right that I forget that I am supposed to be enjoying the moment as well. I look back sometimes and get kinda sad because I realize what I could have “said” or “received” differently in the moment. I have been doing better at it but sometimes It still gets the best of me.
3. Create your ideal cable channel.
The mornings would start off with Saturday morning cartoons up from 6-11 am. From there, we would kick into a 90s channel that has music videos and pop culture like sitcoms and game shows. At 3 pm, it will be the international time with shows and movies from all areas of the world (anime is a MUST...particularly Gundam). From 6 pm to 10 pm would be movies from all genres, kinda like a matinee of “good films” but particularly PG-13 thru R. And from 10-1 am is Horror (I love horror films) and from 1 am to 4 am would be throwback EVERYTHING from cartoons to movies to commercials. From 4 am-6 am is two hours of Lo-Fi music.
4. Share some words on manhood.
Stay hydrated, moisturized and be aware of your body. What I mean by that is stay on top of your health. Too many times us POC like to avoid our aches and pains until it's too late: that goes for the ones you can visibly see and mentally as well. I advocate that we attempt to prevent these things or, if we are unable to afford these things, make lifestyle changes in order to maintain your health. It costs nothing to exercise at home or outdoors and that's the best way to maintain health without the cost.
5. When words fail, what is your outlet?
Acting! If they can't “hear” you, let them “see” you. I've written some of the most meaningful music to me when I was an emcee and it fell on deaf ears but let me dance sporadically to a rock band in a commercial and everyone is talking about it. Even in my upcoming written work, I am writing my emotions like I was writing an album. This was a question that says a lot without saying a lot because I feel like society as a whole is converting to more of a visual than a verbal way of communication.
6. What do you wish most to share with the world?
The gift of doing “it”. I’m not Will Smith or Denzel Washington but I have been on sets that were produced by Overbrook (Will and Jada’s Company) and have worked alongside Ethan Hawke (Training Day), so nothing in this world is impossible. I love when someone says that they didn’t stop because I didn’t stop. Those words and affirmations mean a lot to me so I always want people to know that whatever it is in life and whatever you are going through, you can get through it and eventually “Catch Your Goal”. It starts with you and only you can prevent yourself. The knowledge is out there.
7. What do you have in the works that the world should know about?
I am currently working on a short film titled “Daughter” that will be released in February 2022. I recently had a pre-screening of a film I starred in called “Together” that will be released soon as well. I also am featured in a Batman fan film from Mad Crab Productions titled "Batman: Dawn Of Fear" coming October 29th. I have been working on many upcoming projects so you will be seeing a lot of me in the near future.
