Pivoting Nonprofitability

1. Backstory:

- Introduction: I was approached by Nonprofitability to spearhead their transition into digital products. Our first endeavor is a comprehensive digital guide kit, "Launchpad Resource Guide for Nonprofits," based on Nonprofit DEFY’s DIY model. It's a departure from their traditional webinar-centered approach, aiming to provide hands-on support for founders navigating nonprofit building.

- Context & Challenges: The aim is to create based on DEFY’S DIY model, allowing new and existing founders to navigate board building, grant readiness and fundraising strategies with greater confidence. This shift responds to a need for learning that is self-paced and accessible and aims to reach a wider audience organically.

2. Ideation & Brainstorming:

- Concept Development: Crafting the Launchpad Resource Guide included going into deeper detail of segments on Legal Compliance, Sustainability, Fundraising Strategies, and Tech Tools Workflow Streamlining. The addition of a Grant Writing and Proposal section is underway to round out the kit.

- Key Insights: The focus is on demystifying the nonprofit building process, offering vital resources for BIPOC founders to make a lasting impact in their sectors.

3. Strategy Development:

- Strategic Planning: We wanted to build momentum around this guide by launching it on Black Friday to coincide with Small Business Saturday. The strategic shift towards digital products allows for more accessible and practical resources as well as another way to support a Black-woman-owned business.

- Targeted Approach: The goal is to empower BIPOC founders with resources that provide invaluable insights and practical advice in navigating the complexities of the nonprofit landscape.

4. Implementation & Structuring:

- Execution Process: We started this project by asking NP’s current email lists what they want in a guide for founders - new, current and aspiring. Pulling from those answers, we began writing from the perspective of a student researching for a paper. The creator of Nonprofitablility was also a college professor, so we used that framing to our advantage. We used Canva to build out the bones of the visual elements of the guide and Photoshop to create the more detailed portions. From there, we curated the Legal Compliance, Sustainability, Fundraising Strategies, Tech Tools, and soon-to-be Grant Writing and Proposal sections.

5. Progress & Milestones:

- Results & Impact: To gather some intel on what we’ve been making, we dropped a couple of graphics within an email blast to see what stuck. The response was a resounding “FINALLY!” so safe to say, we’re on the right track. The full launch is the weekend of November 25-26, 2023 and we’re excited to see the full response!

6. Conclusion & Reflection:

- Lessons Learned: The shift towards hands-on learning through digital resources has been what Nonprofitability was missing and we’ve been happy to help them venture into new, exciting digital territories.
